At Akulivik Bay

Adamie Philie
May 22, 2017
Akulivik

"It's mostly for beluga hunting."

Adamie Philie, Inuit

Akulivik Bay looks like a harpoon, hence its name. In the fall, women come to pick blueberries and blackberries; we hunt belugas. A little further, in Kangiqsujuaq, we practice mussel fishing and even further north, past Hudson Strait, ice fishing. In the North, each site has its own distinctive characteristics and throughout the territory, there are small makeshift cabins, made of almost nothing, but that comfort and protect.
